Master Chief Caltabiano assumed duties as Aide de Camp to Deputy Chief of Staff of Operations, Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO on 21 September 2015 and was assigned additional duties as Command Senior Enlisted Leader on 25 July 2016.  He is a graduate from the Italian Navy Petty Officer School of 1984 in Taranto and native of Sicily.

At sea, Master Chief Caltabiano served as Personnel Administrator on DDG Ardito (D550) from 1985 to 1986, on tank-ship Mincio from 1986 to 1988, and on OPV Vega (P404) from 1997 to 2000.

Ashore, he served in many commands to include as Assistant to the Commander, Logistic Support Ships Command from 1995 to 1997, Security Officer, Italian Navy General Staff, Central Registry from 2005 to 2007, Registry Chief/Departmental Systems Administrator, NATO HQ International Military Staff - Operations Division from 2007 to 2010, and Section Chief Assistant, Commander in Chief of the Italian Fleet, Plans Division/Operations Division from 2012 to 2015.

Master Chief Caltabiano holds a Diploma in Applied Arts specialized in Jewelry (1982) and a Diploma in General Preparatory Education from the Italian Naval Petty Officer School, Taranto (1992).  He was promoted to Master Chief Petty Officer (OR-9) rank on 1 January 2008.
