Captain José Miguel Neto was born in Lisbon, Portugal in 28 March 1967.
He joined the Navy Academy in 1986 and graduated in 1990. He is specialized in Communications (1991). He was promoted to his current rank on 12 December 2018.
Along his career he has served at sea on different types of warships, like Patrol Boat (Cacine class), Coastal Patrol Boat (Albatroz Class), Frigate (João Belo class), and mainly on-board the light Frigates (João Coutinho Class and Baptista de Andrade Class), having assumed various duties and among others Executive Officer (XO), Encharge of the Command, Communications and Navigation Officer.
After disembarkation Captain José Miguel Neto served ashore as Head of the Tactics in the Communications and Information Systems School from 1999 to 2001; as Armed Forces Systems responsible in J6 Staff in CHOD PO; as Harbor Master in the National Maritime Authority (NMA) - Capitania da Nazaré from 2006 to 2009; as Staff Officer in the PRT Navy General Staff in External Affairs Division from 2010 to 2013 and in Plans and Policy Division from 2015 to 2016. During 2014 He was in Mozambique in the Military Technical Cooperation with the Mozambican Navy; as Liaison Officer between the Fleet Command and the National Maritime Authority, responsible for the interagency cooperation in the NMA 2015 to 2018 and as STRIKFORNATO's Assistant Chief of Staff Logistics (J4) from 2018 to 2020.
Along his career, he has participated in numerous national and international exercises and operations.
He is STRIKFORNATO´s Deputy Chief of Staff Support since 18 December 2020.
Along his carrier, he was awarded with several decorations and commendations.
Captain José Miguel Neto is married to Margarida Maria Neto, lives in Lisbon, and they have two daughters Rita and Matilde.
