STRIKFORNATO Contributes to Allied Headquarters Readiness at Exercise TRIDENT JEWEL 15
Mar 31, 2015
For 10 days from 16 through 26 March 2015, Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO (STRIKFORNATO) sent a strong contingent to support the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) and Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM) at Exercise TRIDENT JEWEL 15 (TRJL 15). This Command Post Exercise (CPX) was designed to provide MARCOM with a realistic training environment to test its ability to manage a maritime-heavy, joint multinational Non-Article 5 Crisis Response Operation and to mark the headquarters’ achievement of Full Operational Capability (FOC).
The STRIKFORNATO contingent, led by the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, Rear Admiral Juan Garat, Spanish Navy, provided the senior leadership for the Maritime Response Cell (MRC) for the Phase IIIB Execution stage of the exercise, deploying a strong team of Subject Matter Experts in strike and amphibious operations to Joint Warfare Centre Stavanger, Norway (JWC). In addition, STRIKFORNATO deployed the Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff for Education, Training, Exercises and Evaluation Captain Jack Thomas, U.S. Navy, to MARCOM as the Lead Evaluator working alongside the SHAPE assessors.
In such support to MARCOM and SHAPE, STRIKFORNATO directly contributed to greater Allied readiness and responsiveness in achieving FOC by MARCOM. This collaborative and supporting relationship is the hallmark of NATO and multinational cooperation to collective security and greater assurance.
