Turkish Joint Command and Staff College visited STRIKFORNATO

Oeiras, Portugal - A delegation from the Turkish Joint Command and Staff College (TJCSC), led by Brigadier General Cengiz Karacabey and accompanied by Lieutenant Colonel Bahadir Yalçin, Turkish Defense Attaché, visited the Headquarters of Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO (STRIKFORNATO). After a warm reception from the Deputy Commander Rear Admiral Tim Lowe, Royal Navy, and Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, Rear Admiral Juan Garat, Spanish Navy, the Senior National Representative and Assistant Chief of Staff for Plans and Policy (J5) Captain Alper Yeniel, Turkish Navy, briefed the TJCSC delegation on STRIKFORNATO’s unique position within the NATO Force Structure as a high readiness, joint, predominantly maritime, deployable headquarters. STRIKFORNATO is currently the on-call Joint Headquarters Maritime/Expeditionary (JHQ M/E) and the standing Maritime Component Commander for Expanded Task Force operations.
The visit gave the delegation a general knowledge of STRIKFORNATO, the strong role that Turkey plays within the Memorandum of Understanding organization, and the upcoming programme to include challenges and opportunities in the 2015-2018 timeframe.
