Visit of Commander Task Force 68, Captain Joseph Polani

Oeiras, Portugal - Headquarters, Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO (STRIKFORNATO) was visited by the Commander Task Force 68, Captain Joseph Polanin, U.S Navy who was accompanied by Major Curtis Shereve, Commanding Officer, Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team Company, Europe (FASTEUR) and Commander Paul Austin, Operations Officer, Task Force 68. Captain Joseph Polanin was welcomed by the STRIKFORNATO Command Group, led by Deputy Commander Rear Admiral Tim Lowe, Royal Navy, Chief of Staff, Rear Admiral Roy Kitchener, U.S. Navy and Director of Staff, Captain Mike Gatzounis, Hellenic Navy.
Commander Ryan Smith, U.S Navy, lead STRIKFORNATO planner for BALTOPS 2015, briefed and familiarized the group regarding the exercise, to which Task Force 68 will participate as a Task Group subordinate to STRIKFORNATO, as well as the unique Battle Force that is STRIKFORNATO. In return, Captain Joseph Polanin briefed the STRIKFORNATO delegation on Task Force 68, its mission sets/capabilities, and its role in BALTOPS.
This session was a critical engagement that served to strengthen linkages between both headquarters, and will serve to not only deliver a first rate tactical-level exercise in the Baltics this summer, but also in advancing greater Alliance goals, such as the Maritime Expeditionary Operations capability, through mutual cooperation.
