Norway joins STRIKFORNATO

OEIRAS, Portugal – The Kingdom of Norway is officially a STRIKFORNATO contributing member, becoming the 12th Nation to join the Memorandum of Understanding organisation established in Lisbon.

STRIKFORNATO is a multinational Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) organisation directly subordinated to Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) and available for the Alliance as a rapidly deployable maritime headquarters that provides scalable command and control across the full spectrum of the Alliance's maritime security tasks.

The accession of Norway to join the STRIKFORNATO team represents a valuable addition bringing significant experience to a number of the Command’s mission areas.  Norway is an important member of the Alliance with a deep understanding of the northern flank and importance of the transatlantic link.

CDR Torfinn Soerensen, Norwegian Senior National Representative in the headquarters, considers that "joining STRIKFORNATO provides Norway with the opportunity to contribute to a highly trained and responsive Battle Staff capable of planning and executing full spectrum of Joint Maritime Expeditionary Operations. Taking into account Norway’s strategic location and maritime knowledge, both parties can mutually profit from us joining.”
