Commander of NATO Allied Maritime Command visits STRIKFORNATO

Oeiras, Portugal - Commander of NATO Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM), Vice Admiral Keith E. Blount CB OBE, visited Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO (STRIKFORNATO) headquarters and was welcomed by Rear Admiral James Morley, Deputy Commander, today, 6th of October, 2021.

The STRIKFORNATO Command Group had the opportunity to provide MARCOM's Commander an overview of STRIKFORNATO's roles, capabilities, mission, current activities, and the main ongoing projects and exercises within the headquarters.

The aim of the visit was also to discuss the continuous relationship, cooperation, engagement and commitment between STRIKFORNATO and MARCOM.

On order, STRIKFORNATO will provide a Joint Battle Staff under the Supreme Allied Commander Europe's (SACEUR) direct Operational Command (OPCOM) to deliver a rapidly deployable and scalable headquarters capable of planning and executing full spectrum joint maritime operations, primarily through the integration of U.S. naval and amphibious forces, in order to provide assurance, deterrence, and collective defence for the Alliance.

MARCOM is the central command of all NATO maritime forces and the MARCOM Commander is the primary maritime advisor to the Alliance. Like its land and air counterparts (LANDCOM & AIRCOM), MARCOM answers directly to NATO's Allied Command Operations (ACO) which is located in Mons, Belgium.
