First Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Staff visits STRIKFORNATO

Oeiras, Portugal - The First Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Tony Radakin CB ADC, visited Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO (STRIKFORNATO) headquarters and was welcomed by Rear Admiral James Morley, Deputy Commander, May 28, 2021. 

The visit was an opportunity to provide the First Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Staff an overview of STRIKFORNATO’s roles, capabilities, and mission, current activities and the main ongoing projects within the headquarters.

STRIKFORNATO is conducting, on behalf of the U.S. Sixth Fleet, At-Sea Demo/Formidable Shield (ASD/FS) 2021, Europe’s biggest and most complex air and missile exercise.

During his visit, Admiral Radakin also had the opportunity to meet UK personnel assigned to STRIKFORNATO and understand their assigned duties.

The First Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Staff is the professional head of the entire Royal Navy. As the Chairman of the Navy Board, he is responsible to the Secretary of State for the fighting effectiveness, efficiency and morale of the Naval Service, and for supporting the management and direction of the Armed Forces.

The First Sea Lord is also a member of the Defence Council and of the Chiefs of Staff Committee. He supports the Secretary of State in the management and direction of the Armed Forces, and advises on maritime strategy and policy.
