The Future Maritime Warfare Symposium aimed to advance awareness, interoperability and the resolution of operational level concerns and / or frictions in the joint maritime domain.
Due to the COVID pandemic, the format of the symposium was modified to a hybrid format that blended both physical and virtual presence, increasing the possibility of participation while maintaining a safe working environment.
Reflecting on how STRIKFORNATO successfully certified as NATO’s first and only Expanded Task Force (NETF) during TRIDENT JUPITER 2019, VAdm. Black provided his vision and insights on one of STRIKFORNATO’s primary roles. STRIKFORNATO provides NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) a flexible response option for executing maritime operations in up to Major Joint Operations, involving the command and control of multiple strike groups and associated high-end capabilities.
On order, STRIKFORNATO will provide a Joint Battle Staff under SACEUR's direct Operational Command to deliver a rapidly deployable and scalable headquarters capable of planning and executing full spectrum joint maritime operations, primarily through the integration of U.S. naval and amphibious forces, in order to provide assurance, deterrence, and collective defence for the Alliance.
Working closely with partners and stakeholders from international militaries, governments, non-governmental agencies, industry, and academic communities of interest, CJOS COE aims to be NATO’s source of expertise in the conduct of combined and joint operations in the maritime environment.
