STRIKFORNATO Staff added to the exercise by representing the NATO headquarters in preparation for ITS CAVOUR CSG future integration in the Alliance. The Carrier Strike Group Units trained on NATO procedures, communications and policy in order to better prepare the ships, aircraft and staff for future NATO activities. The staff at STRIKFORNATO provided a live NATO command for the embarked CAVOUR Carrier Strike Group Units in close coordination with COMITMARFOR acting as Maritime Component Commander (MCC) on board ITS ETNA during Exercise MARE APERTO.

This exercise allowed the ITS CAVOUR - and ITMARFOR staff in preparation of NRF 24 - to utilize NATO systems and structure to train and rehearse working within the greater NATO Alliance. It also provided important training for the STRIKFORNATO staff in their interaction with Allied Nations' Carrier Strike Groups in high-end training scenarios across the spectrum of crisis.

This event and events like this support Supreme Allied Commander Europe's (SACEUR) Deterrence and Defence of the Euro-Atlantic Strategy which places more focus in the deterrence of Alliance adversaries.

STRIKFORNATO will continue to collaborate with the Italian Navy in order to better prepare their staff and the Alliance units to operate as a cohesive team.

STRIKFORNATO is Supreme Allied Commander Europe's (SACEUR) premier, rapidly deployable and flexible, maritime power projection Headquarters, capable of planning and executing full spectrum joint maritime operations.
