dwight d. eisenhower carrier strike group (ikecsg) visits naval striking and support forces nato headquarters

OEIRAS, Portugal - Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO (STRIKFORNATO) hosted Rear Admiral Marc Miguez, Commander, Dwight D. Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group (IKECSG) and Carrier Strike Group 2 (CSG-2) USA-N, and Captain Christopher Hill, Commanding Officer, USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) USA-N, at STRIKFORNATO headquarters on Wednesday, 20 September 2023.

During their visit, the IKECSG team was briefed on the details of future exercises and activities in which STRIKFORNATO will assume a pivotal role in support of joint force commands. Rear Admiral Miguez and his team experienced firsthand how STRIFKORNATO enables the integration of striking forces into NATO operations.

Our visit to STRIKFORNATO headquarters ahead of deployment informed how the IKECSG can integrate with NATO, through combat readiness and transfer of authority,” said Miguez. “We look forward to meeting Allied forces at sea and continue to build on interoperability and interchangeability."

This visit displays the supportive and vigorous connection that both parties continue to develop, a link that reflects NATO’s unwavering commitment to regional security and readiness to defend and strengthen the transatlantic bond, and the collective power of nations working in lock step with each other in mutual support. The visit also took place after STRIKFORNATO provided a pre-deployment NATO training to IKECSG from 5 to 8 July this year. During the training, IKECSG Sailors worked directly with STRIKFORNATO in training on NATO command and control, procedures, communications, and policy.

Carrier Strike Group TWO (CSG-2) is comprised of flagship USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69), Carrier Air Wing Three (CVW 3), Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 22, the Information Warfare Commander, and the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Philippine Sea (CG 58).

STRIKFORNATO, headquartered at Oeiras, Portugal, is a crucial vehicle of U.S. and other nation’s carrier and amphibious forces integration into NATO operations to provide assurance, deterrence, and collective defence for the Alliance.
