OEIRAS, Portugal – STRIKFORNATO says goodbye to its Assistant Chief of Staff (ACOS) for Administration and Personnel J1 division, Captain Ioannis Athanasopoulos after 3 years of service to the Alliance.

Since joining the Hellenic Navy on 1990, Captain Athanasopoulos has been recognized by his work and dedication. Before joining STRIKFORNATO in 2020, he was Branch head of Maritime Operations in the Hellenic Navy General Staff (HNGS).

Captain Athanasopoulos effortlessly maintained his demanding duties as J1 ACOS and Greek Senior National Representative demonstrating his full commitment to the command and staff. On example of such is the Military Member of the Year Award programme, proposed by him it has a notable impact on the morale, spirit, and competitive nature amongst our battle staff.

He also coordinated between Joint Force Commands, other NATO Commands, and STRIKFORNATO during large-scale exercises and activities such as the NEPTUNE Series, BALTOPS and FORMIDABLE SHIELD.
