OEIRAS, Portugal - Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO (STRIKFORNATO) hosted Commodore, Destroyer Squadron 60 / Commander, Task Force 65, Captain Edward Sundberg, on March 20.

STRIKFORNATO Chief of Staff, Rear Admiral Michael Wosje, and the STRIKFORNATO team hosted Commodore, Destroyer Squadron 60 / Commander, Task Force 65, Captain Edward Sundberg, at Headquarters in Oeiras, Portugal.

During the visit, Captain Edward Sundberg received STRIKFORNATO briefings and discussed vigilance activities such as NEPTUNE STRIKE and exercises such as FORMIDABLE SHIELD and BALTIC OPERATIONS. He also toured the headquarters and visited STRIKFORNATO’s Joint Operations Centre.

Captain Sundberg’s sea tours included several assignments, such as Commanding Officer onboard USS McCAMPBELL (DDG 85). Ashore, he served as Deputy Director for Surface Warfare Assignments/Captain Detailer and Chief of Defense Planning at United States Mission to NATO.

STRIKFORNATO is a rapidly deployable and scalable headquarters, under the operational command of SACEUR, capable of planning and executing full spectrum joint maritime operations including maritime Ballistic Missile Defence, primarily through integration of U.S. and other nation’s carrier and amphibious forces into NATO operations to provide assurance, deterrence, and collective defence for the Alliance.
