On July 1, 2020, Vice Admiral Black assumed duties as Commander of Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO and U.S. 6th Fleet; Deputy Commander of U.S. Naval Forces Europe and U.S. Naval Forces Africa; and Joint Force Maritime Component Commander.

BALTOPS 50

BALTIC OPERATIONS (BALTOPS) is an annual military exercise, held and sponsored by Commander, United States Naval Forces Europe, since 1972, in the Baltic Sea and the regions surrounding it. BALTOPS is the premier maritime-led exercise in the Baltic Sea region and one of the largest exercises in northern Europe. Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO (STRIKFORNATO), headquartered in Oeiras, Portugal, has been leading the planning, coordination and execution of the exercise since 2015.

Operations and Exercises


Today's evolving security environment is complex and has global dimension. The multidimensional concept of security includes roles such as conflict prevention, crisis and consequence management, peacekeeping, support of peacemaking, disaster response and humanitarian assistance.

Our Mission:


On order, STRIKFORNATO will provide a Joint Battle Staff under SACEUR's direct Operational Command (OPCOM) to deliver a rapidly deployable and scalable headquarters capable of planning and executing full spectrum joint maritime operations, primarily through the integration of U.S. naval and amphibious forces, in order to provide assurance, deterrence, and collective defence for the Alliance.
