First Sea Lord Visits STRIKFORNATO


OEIRAS, Portugal – On 09 May 2019, Admiral Sir Philip Jones KCB ADC, First Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Staff of the Royal Navy, paid a visit to Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO (STRIKFORNATO), in order to get a better understanding of STRIKFORNATO’s role in the Alliance.  Admiral Jones was welcomed by Vice Admiral Lisa M. Franchetti, STRIKFORNATO Commander, and Rear Admiral Guy Robinson, STRIKFORNATO Deputy Commander.

During the visit, Admiral Jones discussed the Royal Navy’s ongoing commitments, the lessons from exercise Trident Juncture 18, and also the Integrated Air and Missile Defence exercise Formidable Shield 19, currently taking place off the coast of Scotland. Before departing, Admiral Jones met the UK personnel working at STRIKFORNATO.

STRIKFORNATO is a rapidly deployable maritime headquarters that provides scalable command and control across the full spectrum of the Alliance's fundamental security tasks.  Comprised of 12 NATO Nations, STRIKFORNATO focuses on joint maritime operations and serves as a link for integrating U.S. naval and amphibious forces into NATO operations.
